Simple food

Life here in the Lake District is everything I imagined it to be. I run or hike up to Orrest Head with Amber every morning and then return to our cosy cottage for breakfast and cuddles. We’re exploring more and more of this beautiful landscape, having come across some hidden gems along the way. Hiking and stopping at an excellent pub for lunch is one of my simple pleasures. Recently, we found Queens Head in Troutbeck https://queensheadtroutbeck.pub/ which is set amongst stunning scenery and quietude. They even had a special doggie menu for Amber which was very healthy – steamed white fish, new potatoes and broccoli!

I was very happy with my smoked salmon sandwich which had flavour combinations I’ve not thought of having before – horseradish, pickled cabbage and capers. A glass of Sauvignon Blanc added to this, a lovely ambiance and great company made the experience memorable and worthy of writing about.

Simple food – unfussy, balanced and healthy. I use this approach when designing nutrition plans and coaching my clients. We often get hung up on calorie counting, macros and depriving ourselves of simple pleasures in our quest for health, fitness and aesthetic goals. I have been there and it was actually quite miserable! As I’ve discovered over the years, I look and feel better when I relax any rules I’ve created around food and exercise and just follow my intuition. What feels right, both in body and mind, is the right way for each of us. I love helping my clients get in touch with these internal cues. When we listen to what our bodies need and provide it, we feel happier and healthier.

My nutrition coaching sessions start with a health assessment to establish where my clients are at and what they need help with. We then have a one hour consultation to discuss the finer details and agree on a plan of action. Within 48 hours of the initial meeting, I’ll have the nutrition plan designed and sent out. From that point on, I work closely with my clients to help them implement the plan and stay on track. I use the app, Nourishly to connect and provide a platform for tracking and accountability.
