Valerian Root

For centuries, the tall perennial herb with pinkish flowers known as valerian (Valeriana officinalis) has been enlisted to help restless insomniacs get a sound night’s sleep. Today this mild, non addictive sedative is popular both as a sleep aid and an anxiety fighter.

In the brain, valerian is thought to bind to receptors for a nerve chemical called GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). By blocking some nerve impulses from reaching the brain, the herb seems to shorten the amount of time it takes to fall asleep as well as improve the quality of sleep that results. And, unlike some of the more commonly prescribed sleep medications, valerian is not addictive, nor does it leave sleeping groggy in the morning.

Yerba Mate

Maté is a traditional popular South American beverage widely used as a nourishing tonic and stimulant. Tribes and missionaries alike were commonly reported to have gone many weeks or months without food, being nourished solely by Mate with no ill effects other than a little weight loss. Maté is the most popular household drink in Argentina and Paraguay across all social classes, and is more widely drunk than tea, coffee or other herbal preparations.

In terms of its energising qualities Maté contains Matéine which has the same chemical make up as caffeine, but with the molecules arranged in a different way structurally. Mateine has a unique pharmacology and it is unfair to compare it to caffeine. Matéine appears to possess the best combination of xanthine properties possible. For example, like other xanthines, it stimulates the central nervous system, but unlike most, it is not habituating or addicting. Likewise, unlike caffeine, it induces better, not worse, attributes of sleep. It is a mild, not a strong, diuretic, as are many xanthines. It relaxes peripheral blood vessels, thereby reducing blood pressure instead or raising it as do most xanthines. We also know that it improves physical and mental activity without the typical xanthine-induced depressant after effects.

 Himalayan crystal salt

As long as you’re drinking enough water, salt is absolutely essential for the body to generate hydroelectric energy, maintain good blood chemistry, and balance the correct amount of water in our blood and cells. Crystal salt helps to restore and balance the body’s energy and rebalance acid-alkaline levels.

Himalayan crystal salt is totally pure and contains every mineral and trace element found in the human body. If you are exercising and sweating a lot, it is vital that you replace your mineral levels as well as water levels to avoid sodium depletion.
